Taste Authentic Cantonese food at Naga Eight

A Chinese-style, open-air pavilion recently opened in the heart of Sanur’s iconic neighborhood, Danau Tamblingan.

Charming and casual, the Cantonese restaurant Naga Eight opened its doors to the public in December 2021. Natural light gleams through the open-air restaurant as guests enjoy sumptuous Cantonese BBQ and wok favorites, all prepared using the best locally-sourced produce. With indoor seating for up to ninety people, Naga Eight is the perfect setting to enjoy Cantonese spreads with friends, family or even reserve your own private area of the restaurant. Lovingly restored lattice work, mirrored walls, Balinese carved columns with distinctive coral walls and subtle Chinese accents with dragon scales give the brand its distinctive identity.

The restaurant occupies 500sqm of land within four hectares of lush tropical gardens, located in the prime area of Sanur, (for those that don’t know Sanur is a seaside town with old-world charm, amazing sunrises and pristine beaches). Unifying Balinese and Chinese beliefs, the name Naga Eight is on the one hand, inspired by the local residents’ belief that the location of the restaurant and surrounding area, is governed by a spiritual, mythical dragon. And on the other, we all know that the number eight has long been regarded as the luckiest number in Chinese culture, representing prosperity and wealth.

The original structure of the open-air, pavilioned eatery, was built in the late 1970s and was the former Bali Hyatt’s Chinese restaurant – Telaga Naga.
With the closing of the Bali Hyatt in 2013, a group of professionals in the Food & Beverage industry founded PT Naga Batu Jimbar, and decided to establish Naga Eight in 2021.

Opening every week, Tuesday through to Sunday and from 11:00 am until 09:00 pm, Naga Eight serves delectable Cantonese Barbeque and Wok favorites using the finest ingredients and products that Bali has to offer. Combining classical and modern techniques, our skilled chefs prepare and cook signature dishes such as roast duck, crispy pork belly and barbeque platters. “We’re all about using ingredients that are available on the island and giving our culinary team the platform to create inspired and vibrant Cantonese dishes.” says Wilma Macitra, Marketing Communications Executive.

“Given our noticeable location, expansive garden and spacious adjacent parking, Naga Eight is more than a restaurant, it’s a meeting place. Sanur, our neighborhood and its community is at the forefront of our design concept” said Prami Pratiwi co-founder of Naga Eight “We are thrilled to have this project, the building is unique, and it’s our commitment to continue supporting the journey of this grand old dame.
