Lupine Mexican Bistro – Canggu
Located in the heart of Canggu, Lupine Mexican Bistro is the newest Mexican restaurant in Bali. You won’t be able to miss their beautifully decorated Contemporary-Mexican space, decked out in bright orange as a homage to traditional Mexican haciendas.
Calling themselves “Authentically Inventive,” their menu offerings consist of authentic Mexican recipes presented in an inventive way, essentially by taking it a step further through melding it with cuisines from other parts of the world.
Take their Fish Katsu Taco for example. A playful Japanese nod to the classic Baja Fish Tacos, the golden-fried Fish Katsu is presented on a bed of fresh Yuzu Jalapeño Slaw, topped with the classic Katsu Sauce and house-pickled Daikon. Or try their L.A Style-Carne, a Korean inspired hanger steak taco, marinated in a bulgogi marinade, grilled to char-perfection, and topped with zesty Gochujang Radish Slaw.
Don’t miss their other offerings as well, such as their fried Chicken Wings, coated with a rich Oaxacan Mole Coloradito, or savor the zesty bites of their Putren (Baby Corn) Elote Tempura, served on top of their Avocado Lime Aioli.

Mexicola Group Executive Chef Steven Skelly has put together an expansive, flexible menu that celebrates the regional cuisines of Mexico’s southwest and the Yucatán Peninsula. While you can expect tried-and-true classics like guacamole, esquites, tostadas, ceviches and churros to finish, much of the action centres around the latest addition at Motel Mexicola Canggu. An eight-metre pibil – a traditional fire pit used for roasting and flavouring proteins, vegetables and house-made salsas.Tacos are the star, of course, at both venues, using house-pressed corn tortillas made with proper imported maseca and wicked trimmings: braised beef cheek with BBQ bone marrow salsa; achiote-marinated pork shoulder; chorizo, pit-smoked potatoes and lardo, or roasted pumpkin and black beans…to name but a few.
