Jumeirah Group opens an all-villa architectural masterpiece in Bali

Jumeirah

A sanctuary of tranquility and relaxation where lush greenery meets exquisite Indian Ocean vistas, Jumeirah Bali recreates the romance of Bali and the glory days of the lost Majapahit Empire.

Jumeirah Group, the global luxury hospitality company and a member of Dubai Holding, has further expanded its international portfolio with the debut of its first stunning, contemporary resort in Indonesia – Jumeirah Bali.

World famous for its captivating beauty, Bali is often referred to as the ‘last paradise on earth’ due to its breath-taking natural surroundings. Located in the stunning Uluwatu region, on the southwest of Bali, the all-villa luxury resort sits gracefully on the beach area of Uluwatu – one of the most coveted locations on the island. Inspired by Hindu-Javanese culture and a verdant water-based sanctuary of luxury, Jumeirah Bali pays a poetic tribute to the golden era of the Majapahit Empire, a Javanese Hindu-Buddhist kingdom that reached its apogee in the mid-14th century.

The resort is a collaboration between Martin Grounds from Grounds Kent Architect, who developed the architectural concept, and Jean-Michel Gathy from Denniston International, an interior design consultancy. Wrapped around the property are the sprawling gardens designed by Late Made Wijaya.

Bringing Majapahit Empire’s legacy to life while celebrating the magic and romance of Bali, the spectacular resort provides an unsurpassed destination for couples, groups and solo travellers seeking to reconnect and find inner balance, while soaking in the resort’s stunning natural surroundings. A series of terraced royal gardens, featuring exquisite water features and a grove of ancient Bodhi trees, add to the mystique, along with a swimming pool inspired by Kolam Segaran, the legendary reservoir of the Majapahit which is seen as a symbol of prosperity and happiness; and some scenic replica ruins of Trowulan, believed to be the site of the eponymous capital city of the Majapahit Empire.

On arrival, guests enter an enchanted garden with a 120-year-old red Bodhi tree greeting them like a benevolent spirit and protector. A powerful spiritual symbol in the Majapahit era, the Bodhi tree was known as the “tree of awakening” and traditionally planted at the entrance to royal dwellings and religious sites.

Mr. José Silva, Chief Executive Officer of Jumeirah Group, said: “Bali is well-known for its captivating beauty and rich cultural heritage which sets it apart from the rest of the archipelagos around the world. Jumeirah Bali is a first-of-its-kind concept that embodies the spirit of the province with our unmatched hospitality, providing guests a truly unique and memorable experience to reconnect with nature. The resort adds another feather to Jumeirah Group’s growing international portfolio providing a multicultural hospitality destination, integrating sustainability, culture and wellness. Our partner, Asia Pasifik Property shares our passion for unique and memorable experiences and are committed to delivering on our brand promise of “Stay Different”.”

“The concept of Jumeirah Bali was conceived by PT Asia Pasifik Property as a sophisticated, subtly impactful sanctuary that heals through exquisite architecture and landscaping, as well as promoting local arts and crafts,” said Rudy Sundungdolok of PT Asia Pasifik Property, the project’s developer. “In response to the brief, the designers created an enchanting water palace where the legends of the lost Majapahit Empire come alive in Bali’s most iconic location. In décor, a variety of rich textures and details representing Indian and Chinese influences help to carry the story and set the emotional tone.”
