In a secret spot, a hidden sliding door opens automatically, to giving way to a secret corner of Mamaka by Ovolo, and indeed of Kuta.

Welcome to Kupu Kupu Blow Bar and Spa. With the ability to only host a maximum of seven people at one time, Kupu Kupu is possibly the most bijou of spas I have ever entered.

Treatments are obviously the Mani + Pedi at a seated nail bar, foot spas come with oversized, dark blue velvet arm chairs, then there is a hair salon ‘corner’ with a lie-back salon sink, blow dry and make-up area with mirrors, and a single spa bed in the one and only private spa room. Bijou, cozy and just perfect to get away from the buzz and bustle of the streets of Kuta.

Walk-in guests are welcome, but best book ahead. And, if you do want to book, these are the treatments: Massages come in the shape of Signature Aromatic, Stone Therapy or Back Massage, Traditional Balinese, Head, Neck and Shoulder or Foot Reflexology. Manicures are Express, Signature Gel or Pamper, and the choices for feet match the mani menu.

Hair? Traditional Wash and Blow or Wash Only, with Hair Spa and Hair Mask as the top tier options. Packages come in the guise of Mamaka Bliss with a body scrub, massage and body wrap, and then of course there is a Good Vibes Couple, for you and your significant other! Of course, true to the bar side of a Blow Bar, cocktails can be ordered and sipped on, while you watch your nails dry!

So, once you are refreshed, relaxed and revived, it may be time to hit up Mamaka by Ovolo’s fabulous rooftop, Kuta Social Club, with its surround-sound views and wrap-around sunshine, or hit the shaded, street-side coffee shop/bar/bistro – the hip and ever happening Street 32.
