The past months have been exciting times for SHL Asia as they hit another milestone by winning a number of International Awards. They are thrilled to announce their winning of Best Luxury Architect Studio in Indonesia for 2022 from Luxury Lifestyle Award, a global award for the best luxury goods and services. Parallel to that award, they also received an honourable mention in the category of Office Architecture by Loop Design Award, one of the most prestigious international design awards, for their Workspace and Culture project. Having been in the industry for over a decade, SHL Asia has always delivered A-grade products and services for each of their clients, each with an SHL personalized design, based on the Balinese concept of Desa, Kala, Patra Philosophy (Place, Time & Situation), very well-deserved awards indeed!
As a Bali-based design consultant, founded by people who were born and raised on this magical island, SHL Asia wishes to celebrate the culture of Bali through a personalized and unique design experience. It is not just personalized however, it is also how the design responds accordingly to a) The dream of the client, b) The location of the build and c) Whatever situation exists within the elements of culture, art and nature. With such imaginative concepts and further exploration that envisions all the possibilities and feasibilities would then be interpreted into each detail. Rather than attaching it to a single element, SHL Asia prioritizes smooth alignment within the culture, art, and surrounding elements of Nature, all the while enhancing every element in the design to create an everlasting masterpiece, in line with this island’s firm cultural foothold over the centuries. This is how SHL Asia implements their philosophy of Desa Kala Patra throughout their designs and celebrates this philosophy with the world.
Many might wonder how this Balinese approach is relevant and can it be interpreted by designers across the globe? When talking about flexibility and universalism, the concept of Desa Kala Patra is actually not a design philosophy. SHL Asia reintroduced Desa Kala Patra as the philosophy on life, on how the Balinese continuously improvise and re-interpret, embedding tradition as something flexible without losing the sense of its heritage, to constantly respond to the needs of the times and each place, without “said place” losing its essence. With this in mind, every architect and designer can apply this approach and respond within a local context by implementing it throughout their designs.
For SHL Asia winning this award has meant recognition and visibility, not only for the company and their designs, but also adds to the value that they carry and the identity they hold as Balinese. It is a proud accomplishment to be able to represent Bali and Indonesia to an international audience. Hopefully through this award, SHL Asia’s philosophy can be heard, and many more people can share their love towards Bali and Indonesia.
