THE WARUNG at Alila Villas Uluwatu has consistently delighted diners with its wholesome authentic Indonesian cuisine, served alongside stunning clifftop views across the Indian Ocean. THE WARUNGexperience is now enhanced and restyled, transforming beyond a great place to eat into a must-visit culinary destination for local and international foodies and tourists as well as acclaimed chefs.
Foodies will be delighted to know that at THE WARUNG remains a celebration of the best of Indonesia, each dish offering a journey into the region’s rich variety of exotic flavours, exquisitely crafted to satisfy the most discerning palates. Diners can continue to enjoy Indonesia’s home favourites from a refreshed menu that features new signature dishes.
Keeping it natural, dishes are made using local produce, fresh from organic gardens, ensuring optimum flavour and wholesome goodness, without any added MSG. Keeping it affordable, offering great eats at great value. But it’s not only foodies who are making a beeline for THE WARUNG. The restaurant is also positioned as a culinary playground where local and international chefs who share a passion for Indonesian cuisine converge. Through its Chef-in-Residence programme, THE WARUNG welcomes guest chefs renowned for their mastery of Indonesian cuisine to share their knowledge with its culinary team, imparting the culinary traditions unique to different regions of the archipelago, as well as creating exclusive dining experiences.
The new dishes include AYAM BETUTU, a typical Balinese dish of chicken stuffed with herbs and cassava leaves, wrapped in banana leaf and slow-steamed for three hours till tender; NASI LIWET, a succulent rice dish from Solo, Central Java, cooked in coconut milk and spices, and served with chicken curry and Javanese sambal; and BABI PANGGANG, pork ribs slow-cooked with spices, then grilled on coconut husks – a must for barbecue lovers.
At THE WARUNG, it’s not just the food that rocks, but the ambience too. The restaurant offers a stylish yet casually relaxed affair, where diners can enjoy sharing-size portions and social interaction at communal tables, enlivened by the culinary theatre of an open kitchen. Private tables are also available for those seeking a more intimate dining experience. Alternatively, couples can share a romantic dinner in one of the private cabanas with panoramic ocean views, choosing from a special set menu for two or a menu personally tailored in consultation with the chef.
Accompanying THE WARUNG’S new food menu is a revved up range of beverages, as well as signature cocktails made from Indonesian ingredients served every day during sunset hours at the Boat Bar at the Sunset Cabana. Indeed, the resort’s iconic design and casually sophisticated spaces, which spill from THE WARUNG’S stylish interiors to the iconic cliff-edge Sunset Cabana, make this an altogether hip place to meet, eat and hang out. A buzzing social arena where Instagram-friendly spaces and Instagram-friendly food make this the place to be seen on the Uluwatu dining and social scene.
