The highly anticipated Ubud Village Jazz Festival (UVJF), an international event, is gearing up for its 10th consecutive year of celebrating jazz. Originally set to be the 11th year, the festival had to be cancelled in 2020 due to unforeseen circumstances.

As UVJF enters a new decade, it will be hosted at a fresh location on July 28th and 29th (Friday and Saturday). Yuri Mahatma, the festival co-founder, mentioned, “We’ve held the festival at ARMA for nine years, and the number of attendees has consistently grown. We want to maintain a cozy and comfortable atmosphere for our spectators while continually surprising them with new experiences.” With this in mind, UVJF has chosen to hold the event at the picturesque STHALA Ubud Portfolio Hotel by Marriot. The hotel’s breath-taking, open-air space provides the perfect backdrop for the festival, and the organizers are excited to celebrate it in such a stunning setting.

Klik Suwantara, the festival architect, will once again employ his creative wizardry to create an enchanting ambiance. As always, there will be space dedicated to local culinary businesses and small companies from the creative sectors, enhancing the overall experience of the event. Klik mentioned, “We aim to attract not only jazz enthusiasts but also a wider demographic.”

This year’s UVJF marks a momentous comeback after the global lockdown. A diverse and talented line-up of musicians from around the world, and the archipelago, will converge for this two-day extravaganza, taking the audience on a captivating journey of musical exploration and discovery. The roster includes renowned artists such as the Kevin Hays Trio from the USA, Pere Bujosa Trio from Spain, Henk Kraajeveld Quintet from The Netherlands, MANNA Trio featuring Indonesian bass legend Mates, Rio Moreno Latin Combo from Indonesia, Amanda Lee from Singapore, Wilson Quah from Malaysia-Indonesia, Jeremie Ternoy from France, Yuri Mahatma & Astrid Sulaiman from Indonesia, and the exceptionally talented pianist Nadine Adriana from Indonesia, among others.

UVJF2023 extends heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia for selecting them as one of the Top 10 national-scale events of the year. Over the past decade, UVJF has been entrusted by international embassies as a platform to showcase the jazz musicians from their respective countries. This year, the festival has received support from cultural affairs departments such as France’s Institut Français Indonésie, The Netherlands’ Erasmus Huis, and Spain’s Instituto Cervantes.
