The Cultivated Beauty Of Colonial Life
Bali’s food scene has another reason to celebrate with Ubud’s latest restaurant opening: Union Restaurant Ubud. An eclectic, colonial-inspired modern restaurant has opened in the heart of Ubud, offering delicious brunch and lunch options to exquisite dinners with a wide variety of beverages.
Union Restaurant Ubud: Old meets new, East meets West. Inspired from the past Colonial age, met and unified with today’s modern, inclusive, global culture. A unification of food, style and ideas, where people from all over the world meet and unite. Perfectly situated and true to its name, Union Restaurant Ubud sits at the crossroads in the heart of Ubud; where the quiet eat street of Goutama Street meets the bustling, main road Raya Ubud Street.
Derived from the Latin word ?n meaning one and i?n–a suffix denoting action or condition–a union is the act of combining two or more things to form something new.
Union Restaurant Ubud is open from 9 am to 11 pm. Union Restaurant Ubud is the perfect destination for a casual get together between friends or an intimate reunion.
As culinary cultures mix, a fusion of fresh, modern dishes and cuisines are birthed. Union Restaurant Ubud’s menu combines the best flavours, cooking styles and ingredients from varying cultures to create innovative, delicately crafted dishes which celebrate and recognize cultural expression and unity throughout the ages.
Union Restaurant Ubud, managed by Habitat Group
Union Restaurant Ubud is managed by Habitat Group, a restaurant management and consultancy company founded by three young Indonesian entrepreneurs: Ben Karmadi (Operational and Business Development), Herlia Adisasmita (Marketing and Communications) and Theo Poa (Accounting and Finance). Other Habitat Group restaurants are: Habitat Ubud (since 2016) and Nikkei Ubud (since 2018) on Monkey Forest Street.
Interior and Atmosphere
Union Restaurant Ubud is housed in a casual, open and relaxing space. The inviting restaurant interior is filled with natural, earthy elements, colours and textures from the rustic wood paneled ceiling, rattan lamps, with an abundance of tropical plants. Artwork and décor throughout Union Restaurant Ubud nods to Indonesian’s own colonial rule, with modern recreations of historic Balinese travel posters, maps and artwork from the 1930s to 1940s. Each carefully chosen element in Union Restaurant Ubud embodies and remembers Indonesia’s cultural evolution and collective liberation.
The Menu
Signature dishes at Union Restaurant Ubud include the rich flavors of Soul Spiced Pork Ribs: grilled pork ribs marinated in a homemade Caribbean sauce served with creamy mashed potato and spicy dressings. As well as the Hawaiian-Japan-Polynesian inspired dish, Moana Poke Bowl: diced raw tuna poke, avocado, rice onion butter, Oslo red cabbage and homemade sweet dressing.
Upstairs Bar
Culture is the integral part of Union Restaurant Ubud’s philosophy. Relaxed, good vibes continue upstairs to Union Restaurant Ubud’s second floor. Upstairs at Union Restaurant Ubud, a spacious retro bar and dining provides a comfortable roof-top hangout, away from Ubud’s vibrant streets downstairs. The bar menu includes wine, beer and artisan cocktails, each uniquely created to complement the dishes.
Treat yourself to artisan cocktails at Union Restaurant’s upstairs roof-top bar, prepared by the mixologist. A crowd favourite, Coconut Mojito is a mix of rum, coconut water, coconut monin, lemon juice with coconut candy on top; or the alternative Pineapple Chili Lime Margarita: tequila, pineapple, long red chili, lemon juice, honey and passion foam on top. There is also a wide variety of non-alcohol cocktails and drink options available, like fresh, healthy juices and smoothies from local fruits and vegetables. There is something for everyone.
