Who are the nominees for Yak Woman Of The Year 2017, and why were they chosen?

We look behind the scenes at The Yak Awards 2017 and ask: how are the nominees for Yak Woman Of The Year?

Louise Henry

First up on the list is Louise Henry. For those of you that don’t know, think Bamboo Blonde, Blow Bar and Villa Cocos to name a few of the business pies she has on the hob. Louise also does a lot of charity work and just hosted the 16th Annual Ladies Charity Lunch at Jemme in Seminyak. Louise is also a mother of three – we are not sure where she gets the time – a fabulous and shrewd business-woman in our books…

Karin Karner

Next up, and in no particular order, is Karin Karner, jewellery-designer and dog rescuer extraordinaire. As a single mother with a divine four year old, Karin tirelessly rescues abandoned, caged or captured dogs (for dog meat) and has an amazing record for getting them all adopted. She herself has a penchant for Pitbull terriers. All in all she has nine rescue dogs in her pack…

Paz Fourcard

Paz Fourcard – model, mother, blogger and business-woman in the F & B and fashion industries – we are sure you know Watercress, Milk and Madu, Ulekan and Love Child. This glamorous, earth-caring mother, wife and female powerhouse just seems to seamlessly and effortlessly (along with her partners and team) expand the Good Food Brotherhood into more cuisines and more locations – most recently Milk and Madu opened up next to the Palace in Ubud.

Caroline Usher

Is there an interior or concept in the F&B industry in Bali her talent has not influenced? Starting out with the groundbreaking Mamasan, her company, Ushers By Design, covered a short stint in designing Plantation Grill and Seminyak Italian before moving on to the gorgeous Shanghai Baby (now sadly shut), the huggable Soul Bytes and Bali’s latest mouthwatering interiors – Salazon and the soon-to launch Envie. She also heaps her inspiration onto hotels, villas and commercial spaces here and abroad.

Sue Besant

Last but not least is Sue Besant, founder of Virtuoso & Vision 1 Productions– THE events company in Bali for the last decade or so. A focussed professional who finds no challenge too much, Sue has hand built most of the island’s top events and weddings. Fifteen years ago she changed the party scene with the downright mind-blowing Ku De Ta parties – each set up more incredible than the last! She and Vision 1 create our fabulous Yak Awards and of course has created the space, lighting and music for countless weddings and parties… Bali would not be Bali without her!
