Discover a rich part of the religious and ritual life of Hindu-Bali with Galungan and Kuningan-themed experiences at HOSHINOYA Bali, available between June 1st and June 18th, 2022. To encourage a greater understanding and the preservation of Balinese culture, HOSHINOYA Bali (with the support of the local Banjar Pengembungan Village Customs team) offers activities related to this one-of-a-kind Hindu Bali religious and cultural celebration.
Penjor making
Watch as the resort staff prepare the Penjor – the tall, decorative bamboo pole. Discover the history of this celebration, the symbolism of each ornament, and the process of its creation.
Dates: June 5th – 6th from 1p.m.-5p.m.
Crafting the ornaments for the Penjor
Craft sesions include creating traditional ornaments and offerings called Gantung-gantungan, Cenigan, Tamiang and Canang. Create your own ornaments using different motifs and colors to take part in this celebratory occasion.
Dates: June 1st to June 18th from 10a.m.-11a.m.
Galungan – Day of worship
Guests are invited to visit the Ulun Suwi temple and the temple at HOSHINOYA Bali, both located in the village of Pengembungan. Take part in this ceremonial walk, and accompanied by a resort guide join the temple ceremony led by Priest Mangku Orist.

Kuningan village festivities
These sacred and deeply spiritual performances consist of Wayang Kulit, Tari Baris, Rejang Dewa, and Topeng. Guests can also admire the array of Gebogan – beautiful colourful towers of fruit offerings – at the temple.

Barong dance
This dance is performed by two dancers; one plays the role of the head and the other, the tail. This is accompanied by the dynamic sounds of the Gamelan orchestra, and it is part of a ritual to protect people against plagues and disasters. Capture this rare parade at HOSHINOYA Bali, where all of our resort guests are invited to admire this cheerful performance within the resort.
