noun: solace; plural noun: solaces
Comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness.
Having experienced a couple of other-worldy solace floats, we really wanted to know more about the company and the people behind this stress –relieving, inspiring and mind-freeing practice, so we caught up with Co-Founder of Solace Float – Aaron Turner…
Can you tell us a bit more about how, and why you decided to bring this flotation system to Bali?
Floating was a part of my health and wellness routine before I moved to Bali 5 years ago. Sadly, I discovered there were no floats tanks in Bali and if I wanted to continue to float I was going to have to bring flotation therapy here myself.
What year was that?
We founded the company in 2017 and worked on developing the Float Tanks first before building our first center in 2019.
What were the challenges in setting up this type of company in Bali?
Getting a high-quality finish on the construction, to ensure the specialized light and sound proofing, was not something construction workers in Indonesia were typically familiar with.
What have you found most challenging about getting the “flotation” word out there?
Flotation therapy is already mainstream in the western world but it is still very new to Asia and as such we have had to educate people on what it is and its benefits.
What direct benefits and results can occur throughout, and after, a flotation therapy session?
There have been numerous studies conducted into the benefits of flotation therapy and results consistently showed substantial reductions in levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and pain. Coupled with improved sleep quality and overall mood, proving that flotation therapy is an excellent way to prevent and treat many emotional and physical ailments.
Tell us a bit about what can one expect when signing up for one’s first float?
It is an immersive experience that allows you to feel complete weightlessness of mind and body. The concept is simple; get in the tank, lie down, get comfortable, relax and let go.
Solace flotation tanks. Please describe them – all the bells and whistles…
We have light and audio controls installed on the inside of the tank that puts the end user in complete control of their float experience. Listen to Solace’s curated library of in-tank experiences including music, sound journeys, guided meditations and sleep stories.
What would you say are the long term benefits of adding floatation to one’s routine?
Flotation therapy offers relief and benefits that are cumulative – they build on themselves with each subsequent session. We like to say “the more you float, the better it gets”, as floats themselves deepen beyond the first session. After several flotation sessions, guests report better sleep, more optimism, and decreased levels of anxiety, depression, and pain.
Any extraordinary stories, or revelations from your clients, post-flotation?
I have plenty of stories about how floating has benefited people in different ways, but we had a woman last month who had an accident some years back and it left her with severe back pain and muscle spasms. This required her to do regular dry needling and different forms of physiotherapy. Unfortunately, the benefits typically wore off after 36-48 hrs. Meaning she would start experiencing pain again after the next day or two. Floating has given her what usually could only be accomplished after months of therapy and muscle relaxant medication and the benefits are lasting her over twice as long.
How can Solace assist people who might be slightly claustrophobic, but who still want to give flotation a go?
The tank is large and wide and you can easily open the door at any time to ground yourself. There are lights inside and air vents to keep you comfortable, and if you’d like, you’re welcome to leave the door to the tank open while you float.
What is the most important thing to know or do before booking an appointment?
We recommend that you do not have any stimulants such as coffee beforehand as it can interfere with your ability to relax into the experience. Other than that, just arrive with an open mind and we’ll handle the rest.
